Geoffs Genealogy Update 29 January 2007

Another busy week on the treeing front. I was delighted to receive some more information about the Collyer line - descendants of Robert Hanham Collyer. Also, I have been continuing with my self-appointed task of adding to our pedigree, using information from censuses.

I have explored the line down from John Price (d 1944) as far as I can, taking the Bathurst line down to 1901. Roll on the 1911 census!

The Welsh descendants of Joseph Rand are always interesting, and I have uncovered a few census entries re Mary Ann Davies (b Llangollen, c1824). She married William Sleigh and they had one child - Amy Banks Sleigh (b 1862).

My other peice of work this week entailed a visit to my local LDS family history centre and a look at a microfilm containing the burials at Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. There I found some valuable entries re the Heppell line. Heppell was the maiden name of my mum's cousin, and her forebears migrated from Sunderland to London by 1841. Fascinating.

Jan has received some new information from a new contact who is a Maddox descendant, bringing one branch of that family down to the present day.

None of this material will appear on Geoffs Genealogy for some months, so if you are interested in any of this information do drop me a line.

See you next week!

Geoffs Genealogy Update

One of the wonderful things about genealogy sources being available online is the opportunity they give us to resolve conundrums and develop research without leaving the room! This week I've been looking at the Sleigh descendants of Robert Hanham Collyer and finding out what became of Susannah Rosetta Whitcombe and her child. She was the mother of the child of John Price (d 1844). It turns out that she married a man named Hostage and lived on until 1883.

If anybody is interested in these subjects please drop me an email or add to the blog. It will be quite a while before I get this material on Geoffs Genealogy.

Geoffs Genealogy News Update

Much activity this week on Jan's Sayer lines (you can see the Sayer line on the tree on the site).

Samuel Sayer (b c1799) and his wife, Elizabeth Utting (b c1803) married in Jamaica in 1828 and settled Bogota, Colombia shortly afterwards. They had eight children that we know of, all born in Bogota, and the descendants of these people are living in South America/USA. They really are very keen on family history, and although we have had some contact with them previously, this week we have gone on to their mailing list. The result has been a very large number of emails that have dropped into our in box. It will take some time to assimilate all the information that is coming in, but as soon as possible we will put some of it on Geoffs Genealogy.

Also this week, a couple of other really exciting new contacts. One from a Culshaw researcher, and the other from a direct descendant of Robert Hanham Collyer- one of our favourite research subjects.

Geoffs Genealogy Tree Updated 07 Jan 2007

Today we have updated the Bankes Pedigree tree on Geoff's Genealogy. Quite a lot of information has been added since the last update, which took place in January last year, and it is well worth having a look to see whether you may find a link to one of the lines down brom John Bankes. If you do find a link, drop me a message. I'll be delighted to hear from you.

Thanks to Helen for helping me with this update.

The page on Arthur Ackland Hunt, Artist, needs updating next as I have found some more relevant information since this page was added to the site. I shall work on this as soon as I can, but in the meantime if you are particularly interested in this man and his family, do drop me a line and I'll give you a rundown of the latest information.

Geoffs Genealogy Website - Updated 01 Jan 2007

Welcome to the first entry in my Geoffs Genealogy Blog.

I decided to start this blog as it enables me to keep you informed of the latest developments re my research interests, ands also serves as a reminder to me of what we have done and when! Very useful when updating the website periodically.

Not only that, but it also gives an opportunity for visitors to www.geoffsgenealogy.co.uk to post comments or additional information re the content of the site.

I have today updated the Geoffs Genealogy website with the following:
  • The Collyer section now includes information about Joseph Collyer the Younger (1748-1827). He was a famous engraver - Portrait Engraver to Queen Charlotte. He was also Master of the Stationers' Company in 1815. You can see an account of his life plus a few transcribed documents.
  • The Hunt section now includes a page on Ann (Hunt) Stephens (c1770-1811) and her spouse - John Stephens. These were not famous people, like Joseph above, but I think you will find this information interesting. You can see an account of her life plus some documents.
  • The Articles section contains an article on the subject of Infant Mortality in South Shropshire in the 1890s. I wrote this some years ago, but have just decided to share it with you.
  • The Links page has been updated. One obsolete link removed and a few new ones added.

I hope you will enjoy looking at the material on our website. Don't forget to post any comments you have (polite ones, that is) to this blog. Alternatively you can email me from the website.
